Democrats in California’s Legislature presented a united front in support of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s retaliatory redistricting effort on Monday.

California already has an overwhelmingly Democratic delegation in Congress. Gov. Newsom’s plan could give his party five more seats and offset a Texas gerrymander.

Republicans can move ahead with redrawing Texas’ congressional districts now that Democratic lawmakers have returned to the state.
