"Othello," starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, has recouped its entire investment after nine weeks on Broadway. Capitalized for up to $9 million, the show is now the highest-grossing play revival in history.

Well, big weekly grosses and even bigger stars can’t guarantee a Tony Award nomination. Broadway does what Broadway wants, so no Best Play nominations (or anything else) for huge moneymaker Othello, and no Best Play noms for Good Night,

Culkin notably won an Oscar in March for “A Real Pain” and an Emmy last year for “Succession.” Other stars who were snubbed by the Tonys include Idina Menzel for “Redwood,” Jim Parsons for “Our Town,” Robert Downey Jr. for “McNeal” and Julianna Margulies for “Left on Tenth.”
