ETH Zurich researchers have developed a new method of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the early detection and better monitoring of multiple sclerosis (MS). The method maps the myelin sheaths in the brain more precisely than was previously possible.

Essentially, a brain scan is a picture of the inside of the skull. They’re typically obtained by technicians using either a CT scan, a computerized tomography scan, which uses X-rays, or an MRI, a magnetic resonance imaging scan that uses magnets to produce a clear image.
