The FOX Weather team covering Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica found the location they were staying destroyed, with the team scrambling amidst the chaotic weather.

The FOX 26 Weather Team is continuing to monitor the latest with Tropical Storm Melissa. Forecasts are predicting the named storm will become a major hurricane.

HOUSTON - A Fox 26 Storm Alert is in effect for Friday night, Saturday and through Sunday morning. As moisture returns today, spotty downpours have popped up along with a few storms. Keep an umbrella handy for possible brief showers through this evening, then spotty storms Friday afternoon and evening.

The NHC said strengthening is expected to continue, and the storm will likely become a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane as it creeps closer to Jamaica.

Thursday will bring another sunny and warm afternoon in the 80s. Prepare for the heavy rain coming to the area over the weekend.

The NOLA Reggae Festival will pivot to present a Jamaica Benefit Dinner on Tuesday (Oct. 28) at Paradigm Gardens in Central City (1131 S. Rampart St.). Tickets are $100 and all-inclusive. One hundred percent of the proceeds are set for Jamaica hurricane relief.
