As many in the country keep their eyes on which way the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump goes in battleground Michigan, there are also a number congressional seats also up for vote.

With the retirement of Representative Dan Kildee, Democrats face a tough battle to hold this swing district in central Michigan. Democrat Kristen McDonald Rivet has stressed that she would protect abortion rights, while Republican Paul Junge has emphasized a crackdown on the border. Mr. Junge has previously made two unsuccessful runs for Congress.

Two former state lawmakers, Democrat Curtis Hertel and Republican Tom Barrett, both ran unopposed in the primary, setting up Tuesday’s general election showdown. Hertel served in the Michigan Senate and most recently worked as Michigan Gov.

Michigan’s 7th and 8th congressional district races remained too close to call Tuesday night. Republican Tom Barrett led Democrat Curtis Hertel 55.8% to 41% around 11:30 p.m. Eastern with 48% of votes counted.
