A major winter storm is expected to sweep across North Carolina this weekend, bringing a mix of snow, sleet and ice.

A storm system has engulfed much of the South and threatens to affect millions more as it continues to move northeast, dumping ice, snow and sleet over communities. Western North Carolina is expected to see conditions that could mean prolonged power outages.

Snow, ice and other wintry precipitation hit Western North Carolina over the weekendof Saturday, Jan. 24, and into Sunday. Jan. 25, leaving more than 10,000 still without power.
