A shooting investigation is underway after gunfire erupted during a confrontation early Saturday morning in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The Sheriff's Office said it was alerted to the gunfire through ShotSpotter, a high-tech gunfire detection system.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and took both men to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where one of them died, MDSO said.
