TAMPA, Fla. — Tennis elbow in both arms isn’t the only injury Giancarlo Stanton is currently dealing with at Yankees camp. Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed before Friday night’s game against the Phillies that Stanton has an issue with his calf.

With no clear return date, the Yankees must prepare for Opening Day without Stanton in the lineup. That leaves them with a few internal options for designated hitter, including Ben Rice, J.C. Escarra, and non-roster invitee Dominic Smith.

According to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman on Thursday, Stanton’s injury woes go further than just his elbows. Giancarlo Stanton is said to be dealing with a chronic calf issue as well as the elbow injuries, but the arm pain is the bigger problem.

The Yankees will be without planned-on designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton for the foreseeable due to torn tendons in both his elbows. So for Opening Day and potentially a while beyond, New York manager will have to write a different name into the DH slot on the lineup card.
