Iga Swiatek survived “one of the weirdest matches” after losing the first six games and recovering to defeat Madison Keys and stay on track to defend her title at the Madrid Open.

Iga Swiatek is known for her dominance on clay courts, but Wednesday's quarterfinal match against Madison Keys at the Madrid Open got off to an inauspicious start for the Queen of Clay. Keys handed Swiatek her first bagel on a clay court since 2019.

Madison Keys admits facing Iga Swiatek on clay is a different type of challenge for her because it's the Pole's dominant surface and figuring out a way to beat the world No. 2 there is way harder than on faster surfaces.
