The Detroit Lions hired John Morton to be their offensive coordinator this week. Morton will have big shoes to fill, as Ben Johnson led the Lions to the highest-scoring season in franchise history and the NFL lead in points per game in 2024.
Late last night it was revealed by NFL insider Tom Pelissero that the Detroit Lions had come to an agreement with former Stanford Head Coach David Shaw, naming him the passing game coordinator ahead of the 2025 season.

The Lions' coaching overhaul continues as the team hired former Stanford HC David Shaw in the wake of losing multiple top staffers.
Shaw and Morton go back to their days as offensive coaches for the Raiders under Jon Gruden in the late 90’s. They followed similar paths from there.
Tanner Engstrand served as the Lions' former passing coordinator and is currently under consideration for the New York Jets offensive coordinator position. Aaron Glenn, who was recently named the new head coach in New York, worked with Engstrand in Detroit having been the defensive coordinator.
