Howard County police are increasing school zone safety as the new academic year begins, focusing on driver and pedestrian safety through H.A.S.T.E. and the use of speed cameras and bus-mounted cameras.

Howard County police say they were called to a parking lot near Dove Sail Lane and Merriweather Drive in Columbia, Md. on reports of a shooting just after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.
