Spain forward Jenni Hermoso says that the guilty verdict given to Luis Rubiales for his unsolicited kiss after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final sets an “important precedent” for society and women’s rights.

Luis Rubiales, the disgraced former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, was found guilty in a Madrid court on Thursday of sexually assaulting Spain player Jenni Hermoso when he forcibly kissed her at the 2023 Women's World Cup final.

Former Spanish football federation chief Luis Rubiales said Tuesday that he asked Women’s World Cup winner Jennifer Hermoso for permission before kissing her during the on-field medal ceremony for Spain’s victory in 2023.
