The Los Angeles region is bracing for a series of potential thunderstorms and heavy snowfall this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout San Diego County in the middle of the week, with periods of gusty winds.

A low pressure system brought some light rain, mountain snow and gusty winds to San Diego County overnight, the National Weather Service said. Scattered showers last night and this morning brought some light rainfall accumulation,

The same system that is set to cause a severe weather threat across the Deep South this week is also expected to cause a significant winter weather threat from the Rockies to the Upper Midwest. The system has been named Winter Storm Lola by The Weather Channel.

A strengthening storm system will move across the country this week, bringing blizzard conditions to the Heartland and tornadoes and damaging winds to the South.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will primarily impact eastern Colorado overnight, with snowfall continuing into Tuesday. Some areas could see up to a foot of snow, while winds could reach 50 mph — and possibly as high as 60 to 70 mph in the southeastern part of the state.
