More and more major subreddits have recently banned links to the Twitter (X) platform purchased by Elon Musk – some even banned screenshots. The reason for this is a gesture by Musk – he showed an alleged Hitler salute at US President Trump's swearing-in ceremony.

Multiple "subreddits" have banned links from Elon Musk's X platform after the tech mogul flashed a gesture that critics have said resembled a Nazi salute.

In the wake of Elon Musk's speech at Trump's inauguration and its accompanying (ahem) hand gesture, the userbase of Reddit seems to have decided it's simply done with Musk and his website. As we reported yesterday, r/pcgaming has now banned X links —and the same thing is happening across a huge number of subreddits, major and minor.

A boycott of links to Mr. Musk’s social media platform spread on Reddit this week, after he made a gesture that some likened to a Nazi salute. Others worried about censorship.

Reddit communities, including some with millions of followers, have instituted bans on links to X, formerly known as Twitter, amid the uproar surrounding Elon Musk’s hand gesture during a recent inauguration event. A Reddit spokesperson clarified that these bans are initiated at the user-level and are not platform-enforced.

In reaction to hand gestures Elon Musk made at a post-inauguration rally that many said resembled a Nazi salute, Reddit moderators took swift action.
