NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured the first detailed images of asteroid 2024 YR4, a near-Earth object that initially raised concerns.
NASA said that an asteroid previously believed to be destined for Earth is now more likely to make impact with the moon.
YR4 has a 2% chance of hitting the moon in December 2032, a slight rise from NASA’s February estimate of 1.7%.
In January and February 2024, asteroid 2024 YR4 briefly raised concerns after initial calculations suggested a 1-in-83 chance ...
The near-Earth asteroid 2024 YR4 was discovered by a Chile-based telescope from the Atlas network in late December. The European Space Agency (ESA) said it has an almost 99% chance of safely passing ...
For a long time, scientists thought that only actively star-forming galaxies should be observed in the very early Universe. The James Webb space telescope now reveals that galaxies stopped forming sta ...
Believed to be one of downtown’s oldest buildings, if not the oldest, the Webb Building dates to 1871 – the year Birmingham was founded -- when Birmingham businessman John B. Webb built it and opened ...
The rare cosmic phenomenon, called an Einstein ring, occurs when massive objects can bend light due to their gravitational ...
Shortly after it was discovered, astronomers calculated that the asteroid had a 1-in-83 chance of hitting Earth in 2032 — that's an impact risk of around 1%. Experts urged caution, though noting that ...
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope recently turned its watchful eye toward asteroid 2024 YR4, which we now know poses no ...
YR4 asteroid has a near-zero chance of striking Earth, but a slim chance of hitting the moon, new research says.
