A child was hit by a car and killed in the St. Claude area early Thursday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The crash was reported to police at 8 a.m. in the 1400 block of Desire Street and the driver stayed on scene during the investigation, police said. The child was transported to a hospital but died there later.

The New Orleans Police Department is trying to identify and arrest a group of thieves who are blamed for at least six car burglaries in the same night in the Mid-City and Gentilly neighborhoods.

According to police, the woman was reportedly hit by a car while on foot and leaving the business at the location.
