Jan 30, 2025 · Since its inception as the UW Clinical Nutrition Research Unit in 1985, the University of Washington (UW) Nutrition and Obesity Research Center’s (NORC) overarching goal has been to support basic, clinical, and translational research at UW related to nutrition, obesity, and related metabolic disturbances.

We offer a broad range of services to this diverse research base and focus on three overarching scientific themes: Energy Balance and Obesity Pathogenesis, Health Risks of Obesity, and Nutritional Aspects of Systemic Illness.

The Nutrition Obesity Research Centers, funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, integrate, coordinate, and foster interdisciplinary basic, clinical and public health research related to nutritional sciences and issues of obesity.

Nov 14, 2024 · The well-established Enrichment Program is an integral component of the core UW NORC mission at the University of Washington. The Enrichment Program proactively supports collaboration within, and the educational enrichment of, the local nutrition and obesity research community.

We are pleased to announce that effective September 1, 2021, Dr. Ellen Schur, MD, MS, has assumed the Director position of the UW Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC).

The Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), formerly the Clinical Nutrition Research Unit (CNRU), is designed to promote and enhance the interdisciplinary nutrition and obesity research activities at the University of Washington.

Dr. Adam Drewnowski is a world-renowned leader in the study of obesity and social disparities in diets and health. He is Professor of Epidemiology and the Director of the Center for Public Health Nutrition at the School of Public Health.
