Fooled by a bird…🪺 Killdeer build their nests on the ground, designed to blend into the surroundings. If threatened, mom has a few tricks up her wings…like pretending one of them is broken to lure away predators. She may also do the false nest act. Baby killdeer always come out running. They hatch with their eyes open, and as soon as their downy feathers dry, they start scurrying about, following their parents and searching the ground for something to eat. Killdeer chicks will also tuck themselves under their mother's wings for warmth and to keep dry.
