I haven't painted a dog portrait on such a small scale before but I really enjoyed the challenge. Refining how the brushes needed to be used to ensure the details were right for the smaller size was key. This is so beneficial for then painting larger pieces. My latest graphtie drawing was all about drawing black fur. Something that can be oen of the hardest fur types to get right in graphite. It's so easy to just jump to a dark 9B pencil early on but this can significantly limit what depth and realism is achieved. I had so much fun drawing this and it's ended up being one of my favourite portraits to date
