Chambe the great Mulanje Massif | Japhyt Mvula

Last stop for the Malawi Madness - the Mulanje Massif. Often referred to as an “island in the sky,” this range rises abruptly over 7500 feet out of the plains, creating its own weather and hosting a diverse array of wildlife and plants. Orama, my guide for the trek and climb, points to occasional Mulanje cedar tree stumps, the endemic cedar almost logged into extinction given its high commercial value. At almost every turn a new flower is seen, including some of the 170 orchid species found here
