When you are creating, you are drawing on exactly the systems ADHD activates most reliably — interest, novelty, challenge, and emotional engagement. That is why creative flow can feel like the one place where your brain finally works the way you always hoped it ...

Stage 1. A bucket on an Easter or spring theme. Here is a film of Stage 1 - a bucket on an Easter or Spring theme. This might give you some ideas to try if you want to run a session yourself or maybe it could be an Attention Autism session you could watch with your child. Stage 1 is meant to be short so it doesn’t last very long. We run Stage 1 like this because we are teaching the child how to focus their attention and then practice focusing their attention. We want them to be able to switch on

Attention Autism Session. Spinning Chick! More Easter/Spring Stage 1 Saucepan Stage 2 More Spinning chick! In this film I use a saucepan to hold the things I am using to set up the theme of chicks. In Stage 1 we are trying to engage the children with a wide range of things to think about and sometimes we can follow a theme to establish the vocabulary in different ways. We need to keep some repetition without it getting boring. The spinning chick in Stage 2 does not match real life I know but the

Stage 2 fireworks. A colourful activity with real wow factor. Sorry the video’s a bit short but here Toni from Kowhai School shows is how it’s done. Thank you Toni. Lay out the shower curtain. Shake on a large circle of flour. (This beefs up the colours later and gives the activity more impact). Using water bottles with spray nozzles. Add colouring to each bottle. You need quite a lot to get a good effect. Spray the coloured water on rhythmically in circles... round and round and round... When a
