On May 13, 1985, the police, after a day-long confrontation with the black radical and naturalist group MOVE, in an attempt to evict their compound in West Philadelphia, dropped an explosive device on the roof of the building. The action claimed the lives of six adults and five children and burned a neighborhood to the ground. Today marks the 35th anniversary of the day. Breaking news out of West Philadelphia. Officers from the nineteenth district responded to a report of a shooting near the two hundred block of North Sixty Second Street earlier today. Police arrived and found a thirty four year old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Medics transported the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators say there is no known motive at this time, and no arrests have been made.
